Fueled by volunteerism, the Hometown Heroes Honor Run committee is dedicated to families of injured or fallen officers, ensuring they have the financial support necessary to recover or adjust to their new lives. The run was developed as a tribute to honor Officer Andrew Tachias a UCR alumni, Division 1 runner was recently shot and wounded during the line of duty for the Riverside Police Department.
Every penny of the revenue generated from the Hometown Heroes Honor Run is put into the Riverside Police Officers’ Assistance Fund. Money is equally divided to support youth and elderly community based programming and families of officers injured in the line of duty or those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
The RPOA Assistance Fund is very active in the law enforcement community. Since its establishment in 2011 the fund has provided over $60,000 in donations to local, state and national law enforcement support agencies. Additionally the Assistance Fund provides community support in the Riverside area through the Blue Elves Program, educational scholarships and youth fitness programs.
